the flea circus is a miniature (model if you like) circus, with props made from various materials. harnassed flea manipulate the props and create the acts within this circus, fleas are harnassed using very fine wire, which is tied around the fleas neck. this is usually made from jewelars 'gold wire' of a thin gauge, the props are made from various materials, sometimes jewelars are set the job of creating miniature charriots and carts!
the acts have genarally been the same over the decades...
these include...
charriots and 'horse drawn' style vehicles are pulled via the flea
high dive - the flea dives from a diving board into a pool of water below...
high wire - the flea crawls across the wire to the other side
sea-saw - the fleas ride the sea-saw
trapeze - the fleas jump from swing to swing
flea cannon - the flea is shot from the cannon

the flea circus originates from as far back as the egyptian times, but was most successfull during the 1600s onwards, when these were exhibited or shown from small boxes in pubs and taverns and streets.
today there are not as many circuses around, many use tricks to fake the fleas, and are used for partys, private functions, events etc.. and there are little 'sideshow' circuses left...
